Learning Outcomes
  • ULO1: Relate and identify the six macro-environmental factors that affect organizations.
  • ULO2: Show how international business is affected by the many different types of environments (i.e., economic, political, social, cultural, financial, technological) in which it operates.
  • ULO3: Synthesize current and future changes in the macro-environment for a selected organization.
  • ULO4: Examine possible impact changes in the macro-environment would have on an organization.
  • ULO5: Develop and present a due diligence business report to a business audience to inform decision making.

In this unit, students will learn the six major macro-environment forces that affect all businesses and their strategies. Through case study analysis, group discussions, and research work, students will investigate how these forces create opportunities as well as pose threats to businesses. The unit equips students with the concepts and knowledge to conduct due diligence and identify the implications of these uncontrollable environmental forces, particularly when considering entry into a new country.
