This unit provides a comprehensive exploration of advanced SQL techniques and data warehousing principles essential for professionals in analytics and business intelligence.

Students will develop the skills to design, implement, and manage robust data warehousing solutions, leveraging advanced SQL for complex data retrieval, manipulation, and performance optimisation.

Key topics include dimensional data modelling, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, data warehouse architecture, and integration with Business Intelligence (BI) tools for analytical reporting and data visualisation.

The unit also emphasises data governance, security, and compliance in warehousing environments, while introducing emerging trends such as cloud data warehousing and real-time data processing.

Throughout the unit, students will engage in practical assessments, including advanced SQL projects, data warehouse design, and a capstone project involving end-to-end warehousing solutions and BI integration.

By the end of this unit, students will have the skills to address real-world data challenges, creating efficient, secure, and scalable data warehousing systems that drive business insights and decision-making.

The unit is aligned with the following course learning outcome (CLO):

• CLO5: Develop specialised skills and knowledge in a chosen area of business analytics through completion of specialisation units and a Research Project.
• CLO6: Utilise business intelligence tools and techniques to generate insights from data and create meaningful reports for decision-making purposes.
