Learning Outcomes
  • ULO1: Explore and describe the shape of data with statistical measures and appropriate graphics.
  • ULO2: Understand the statistical measures for associations.
  • ULO3: Apply practical knowledge of probability and probability rules.
  • ULO4: Understand the concept and differences between probability distributions and sampling distributions.
  • ULO5: Conduct basic statistical inference.
  • ULO6: Conduct simple linear regression and evaluate the model.
  • ULO7: Obtain an overall view of the statistical applications in the business context.
  • ULO8: Perform association analysis between categorical variables and between quantitative variables.

The purpose of this unit is to introduce fundamental statistical concepts and techniques through a wide range of real-life practices and hands-on tutorials for students pursuing a data-centric career. Topics covered in this unit include basic statistical measures and graphics, data exploration techniques, fundamental probability and probability distributions, sampling distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, correlation, group comparison, simple linear regression, and the Chi-Square test.
